Chicken and sausage congee

Congee has to be every Chinese person’s comfort food. If you guys don’t know what it is (or been living under a rock), Congee is a Chinese rice porridge. You can practically throw any kind of protein or vegetable inside a congee and it will taste good. It all about experimenting and knowing your ingredients. Yes, this dish is long to make but the wait is going to be well worth it.


1 cup brown basmati rice

8 cups water

2 cups cooked chicken, chopped

1 cup sausage, casing removed and chopped

salt and pepper to taste



In a large pot or a slow cooker, add rice and water. Bring it up to a roaring boil. Then turn the heat to low.

Add all ingredients inside and stir. Cook for 1 hour stirring every 10 minutes. Season gently with salt and pepper.


This recipe serves up to 6 people and be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
